Back in the early days, before Ananda Hemp started in earnest, KY AG Commissioner James Comer was one of the key figures in returning hemp to Kentucky. Comer’s statewide leadership brought Phil Warner and Brian Furnish together to create the vision that became Ananda Hemp. What has James Comer been up to since then? Well, he went to Washington.
Comer was elected to replace Ed Whitfield in the US House of Represenatives. While his time in the US House has been short, Representative Comer continues to value the importance of American agriculture. As such, he is one of the sponsors of the 2017 Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2017. The bill is an effort to close some of the legal loopholes present in the 2014 Farm Bill. As such, it would serve to strengthen the role of Industrial Hemp in Kentucky and the rest of the country.
